Blown Away

Last night was a blast, for the lack of a better word. Spotted: Seventh High, The Fort. I went to the event of The Red Whistle's charity auction last August 31, 2011. Proceeds of the event would be directed to the programs for mobilization planned until the end of this year.

The event started out with the basic HIV 101 of the guests who wanted to be educated about the virus. People got introduced to the group and were given information by the counselors before their own red whistles were handed out.

The auction night was started off by JM Rodriguez as he welcomed his co-hosts for the evening Krista Kleiner and Shahani Gania.

Designers who donated include Joey Samson, Frederick Peralta, Rajo Laurel, Nat Manilag, Francis Libiran, Tina Daniac, Eric delos Santos, John Paras, Mikee Andre and our Filpino designers abroad X’s Jasler of Jail Jeans (Singapore) Michael Cinco, Albert Andrada and Bandoix Flores Nebria of Dubai. Nonito Donaire Jr donated a signed boxing glove. Finally 100 pcs of leatherette encased stainless whistles that were hand sewn will be sold that night. These are designed by X’s Jasler of Jail Jeans, Singapore and 10 limited edition leather encased stainless whistles with swarovsky crystals were being sold as well.

The night was filled with wonderful music while a photo presentation of all the celebrities and advocates wearing The Red Whistle was shown.

I can't help but say that this was pretty much a successful and fun-filled night. I was definitely blown away.

The Red Whistle

With the continuous climb of HIV cases in our country, I find that there is a dire need for us within the internet community to start banding with our brothers and sisters within the advocacy in the fight against the virus and AIDS related deaths.

One such group of people to take upon this challenge is the Take The Test Project. They are a group who facilitates means to make HIV testing "closer to the community". Now they have started an ingenious new campaign to help ward of the hush hush taboo which is the topic of HIV and AIDS, The Red Whistle campaign.

And to quote from their Facebook page description...

"The Red Whistle aims to empower and inspire people to come together and help each other in this battle against HIV and AIDS. We hope to engage individuals and groups to HELP sound the alarm in their respective communities that HIV is here and it must be stopped."

With the simple red whistle, which is both light and attractive, this means of propaganda is as adroitly thought of as one would expect from a group of advocates which are a mixture of artists and HIV young forerunners like Niccolo Cosme. A significant yet surprisingly fashionable trinket to help push for awareness.

To learn more about their campaign and where to get your own Red Whistle, visit their Facebook page at this link.

Do your part. Get involved. Stop the spread of HIV and AIDS.
